Tax Cuts … duh!

Tax Cut

Anyone who has ever run a small business knows that unless you can start it with cash you are probably going to be in the red for some time. So what makes a business grow? How do mom and pop become Microsoft? Elbow grease? Sure. Low overhead? Yep. But this is a political column, so let’s talk about tax cuts. Not credits, President Obama—tax cuts. The last thing to come back after a recession is jobs, and the first thing to suffer is jobs. I hate the Federal Government getting involved in private business at all, but let’s face it—it ain’t goin’ anywhere anytime soon so deal with it. In the meantime, what can the Government do to actually help the economy? Tax cuts… duh!

Does it make sense that the Government (which is run on tax dollars) would receive more revenue from a full-time worker than they would from someone collecting unemployment benefits? Does it make more sense that the government would make more money from a business employing 10 full-time workers than it would from five part-time workers? So if you cut taxes and reduce spending across the board for one year, how many more employers could afford to hire more people and grow their businesses? How much more money over and above the loss incurred from the reductions in spending and cuts in taxes could the Federal Government “steal” from these newly employed Americans?

Three presidents in history cut taxes across the board: JFK, Ronald Reagan, and George W. Bush. Out of 44 presidents, three TRULY cut taxes. I’ll let you guess what happened. I’m not a math person, I’m a historical thinker. So now the fun begins. If tax cuts for private business works, why won’t anyone do it? There is a vast rightwing conspiracy out there that claims liberals want to turn everyone into “government” workers and do away with private business altogether as a system of control. This is the only way to be fair and spread the wealth around. That was something President Obama stated during his presidential campaign. (Remember “Joe the Plumber”?) Now he is proposing completely eliminating all student loan debt for individuals who come straight out of college into Government-controlled employment, IF they remain employed by the Federal Government for at least 10 years.

So how are colleges going to get paid if the debt is eliminated? You tell me. Sounds like President Obama wants to create good little socialists that won’t be able to look toward anyone but the Federal Government if they fall down and skin their knee. I haven’t totally bought into that conspiracy yet, but you have to admit it makes a lot of sense. Why do liberals always want to raise taxes on the rich? These are the people that create jobs, right? Why do we have one of the largest tax rates in the world? If the private sector can’t afford to hire anyone, that leaves the Federal Government as the only one who can. Make sense? And then there’s the Fair Tax…
